Led by Dr Ahmed Hashim, this research explores how emerging technologies and evolving warfare strategies are reshaping the future of war.

Drawing on his expertise in military strategy, Ahmed examines how advancements in AI, robotics, autonomous systems – and even genetic bioengineering – are influencing the changing dynamics of conflict.

His work seeks to answer the following key questions:

• How will emerging technologies like AI, drones and hypersonics redefine the character of warfare over the next two decades?
• What’s the role of non-state actors in modern warfare – and how does access to commercial technology affect their tactics?
• How do different countries develop distinct ‘ways of war’, and what factors influence their strategies and military behaviour?

Ahmed’s research aims to bridge the gap between common misconceptions and the realities of emerging technologies. It uses retrospective analysis and wargaming methodologies to gain insights into current and future conflict scenarios.
